Sun & Sea: Islands of Cebu to Visit

Of salty waters, sea breeze and grilled bellies, there's no better way to start summer than a dip in Cebu's finest ocean waves and sandy beaches. Island hopping was the go-to getaway from the aftermath of what school had to give us.  For some of you who hasn't got a clue what this getaway is about, we get the chance to ride in some small boat (aka bangka/banca), go to islands or just dock in the middle of the ocean and jump our asses into the water.
See that first island picture above? That's Sulpa Island. We first docked there, though we didn't set foot on the island itself since most of the islands have entrance fees ranging from Php100-Php200. We just anchored a few feet away from the island and took a little dip in the shallow, sandy waters.
I would suggest you bring raw marinated meat and fish and let the boat people grill them for you, that way you're feeling the island/Caribbean vibe, I guess. We did that, and let me tell you, grilled foods are the best ways to eat when going to these kinds of things.
Other islands I would want for you guys to visit here in Mactan, Cebu are:
  1. Nalusuan Island- This island is a resort that offers a bit of everything; snorkelling, swimming, restaurants, rooms and the like.
  2. Olango Island-For all you wanting to snorkel and experience the bird sanctuary here. This island is best known for its flyways for migrating birds.
  3. Pandanon Island- though estimated travel time of 2 hours, the island is known for its sandy shores and sandbars. Perfect for an island getaway of building sandcastles, doing yoga poses and tanning.
  4. Northern Sandbar- This place I haven't been to but I've heard it's a real treat. They say it's like having your own private island
  5. Hilutungan Island- Best known as the Fish sanctuary, a real treat for those wanting to dive, snorkel and swim with fishes of the sea.

 Shannen's Tips for Island Hopping:
  1. Always be with great company.
  2. Find the most trusted, and sturdiest boat there is. I suggest you ask for advices or connections about which boat to get.
  3. Bring portable speakers, you do want some reggae or party music don't you?
  4. Bring raw meat and fish and let the boat peeps grill them for you.
  5. NEVER FORGET SUNBLOCK. NO TO HEAT STROKE.
  6. Waterproof cameras, GoPros are big essentials.
  7. Colorful floaties add some fun to the swimming experience.
  8. Bring your own bread/biscuit when feeding the fish.
  9. HAVE FUN!
